Food Spoilage

Foods cannot keep long at room temperature. Food turns bad because of the growth of micro organisms such as bacteria and fungi. The faster the micro organisms grow, the faster the food will be spoilt.

Characteristics of spoilt food:
a) a bad smell

b) becomes slimy

c) becomes mouldy


d) becomes limp and wilted


e) dark spots

f) changes in colour and texture

Micro organisms that cause food to spoil need air, water, nutrients, suitable temperature and suitable acidity to grown and multiply.
